My name is Lillian Mulwa Adams and I am the Founder of Elevate A Child Africa. I am privileged to be the leader of a dynamic and committed team that works to eliminate generational poverty in Africa’s rural communities.
I was born and raised in a small rural village in Machakos County, Kenya. As a young adult, I was fortunate to further my studies in the United States of America, which I now call my home. In fact, it was not until I traveled back to Machakos that I realized how fortunate I was.
When I arrived to Machakos I was painfully struck by the reality of the poverty my neighbors and childhood friends were faced with. To see them living in poverty like their grandparents, parents, and now them with their children , impacted me a great deal. I knew I had to do something. At first, I tried improving their circumstance by donating clothes, food, and shoes.
I soon realized I could not fight poverty with freebies no matter how noble my intentions. I needed to make a change that would last. Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” and this truly resonated with me. In order to change the generational poverty, I need to change the younger generation, and that could only be done through education.
In 2015, My Vision was clear. I wanted to transform lives and disrupt the cycle of poverty in these communities. I aspired to empower children to gain the knowledge; skill-sets and attitude needed to overcome. This vision lead to the formation of Elevate A Child Africa.
It is my sincere hope that you will join us in our effort by becoming a friend of Elevate A Child Africa
